Asked the same question about 3 weeks ago. I took out the white spacer and got rid of 70 to 80 percent of the backfires. However, I had to turn up the idle screw up a hair so it would not kill when it was cold (Riding right after startup). After it warmed up this small problem went away. I am not the most mechanical guy in the world, but I do have some skills. It was easy and done in about 45 minutes. The biggest thing is to use the proper screwdriver to get the phillips head screws off the top of the carb. Also my fuel hose got a pinhead hole in it, so it had to be replaced it with a better quality hose. Watch out for fuel leaking out the gas cap. Don't know if this is common but ours leaks everytime my wife lets her bike down,(4 times and counting)LOL.. or I mess with taking the tank off and get fuel near the cap opening. While the tank is off you should change your spark plug. It's the only way to get to it. I hope this helps. I don't feel a jet kit is necessary, but then I'm not a mechanic. I am very pleased with this modification.

Al
